"Giving recognition and honoring our military, police officers, and fire fighters
for the sacrifices they made to secure our lives."
Since it's inception in the summer of 2004, one year after the onset of Operation Iraqi Freedom, a small group put together a special event to honor those brave souls who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Today the Tribute to Our Fallen annual event, held at the Davenport Memorial Park, has grown exponentially.
The first few years were dedicated solely to those in Iraq securing the freedoms of the Iraqi people, those seeking out Al-Qaeda and Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan, and all of the first responders and civilians lost in 9/11. Since 2008's event, veterans of all eras have been included in this very special remembrance.
As years passed, several local support organizations have now banded as the Mississippi Valley Patriots to ensure that all who have fallen in defense of this great Nation will never be forgotten.
A display of over 100 flags, guest speakers representing past and present military, wounded warriors, local veteran support organizations, etc., will offer remarkable insight into the spirit of this event during opening and closing ceremonies.
The Tribute to Our Fallen is open continuously from Friday evening though Sunday afternoon. This event includes guest speakers, a concert on Saturday afternoon, and worship services Sunday morning. We also provide an ample amount of time for visitors to tour the site and talk with veterans, and others on hand, or just quietly reflect.
